Using tkbiff for the First Time

If tkbiff hasn't been installed, install it. The INSTALL file will explain how.

Depending on your system, run tkbiff by clicking on a tkbiff icon or by entering tkbiff from the command line and pressing <Return>. tkbiff will create a configuration file if you don't already have one.

If you don't have any unread mail, tkbiff will say that. Send yourself some mail and see what happens after a minute or two. (You can cause tkbiff to check immediately by pressing <Return> in the main window.)

If tkbiff isn't finding your mail, you may have the IMAP or POP parameters incorrect. By default, tkbiff doesn't complain about a mail server that is down since it might just be a temporary condition. (If you make a spelling error in the hostname, tkbiff will assume that it's due to transient DNS failures.) To force tkbiff to complain about bad mail servers, add set hostretry 0 to your configuration file.

If you have unread mail, look at it by clicking on the message subject or sender. (If you have more than one mouse button, use the leftmost button). Press <?> in the tkbiff window for more quick info.

If tkbiff seems to be hanging, try running it in verbose mode.

Go to tkbiff homepage.
Go to tkbiff documentation.
